Athens Theatre Youth Academy and Fall Festival Grand Slam - Chess Park

On Saturday from 4-5 PM, enjoy music and entertainment in Chess Park (116 W Indiana Ave, DeLand, FL) from our students at the Athens Theatre Youth Academy! Students from Advanced Improv, the casts of Willy Wonka Kids, Legally Blonde Jr., and the Academy’s newest program for high school students - The Young Company, will be putting on a show that you don’t want to miss!

Also in Chess Park throughout the weekend, don’t miss the Fall Festival Grand Slam, where poets will compete for a share of $1,500 in cash prizes over two thrilling days. Each day features a Poetry Slam with first place taking home $500, second place $150, and third place $100, starting at 1 pm in Chess Park. Each slam includes three rounds, with opportunities for all poets to perform two poems, leading to a clean-slate final round for the top three. Alongside the competition, there's a Poetry Extravaganza with Open Mic sessions from 10:30 am to 12 pm and 3 pm to 4 pm, and a special spotlight feature from 12 pm to 1 pm. Poets are welcome to compete on either or both days, but those who place on Saturday must present new work on Sunday.

Registration is free but requires a photo and a short bio to be emailed to macdelandslam@gmail.com by October 25th. This poetic showcase is brought to you by MainStreet Art and Culture Slam of DeLand, Creative Happiness Institute, and the Fall Festival Of The Arts - DeLand.
